Cooking and Baking Camp

Taught by an experienced pastry chef who has worked in some of New York’s finest restaurants and hotels, students will learn a variety of delicious recipes that will delight their taste buds as they study methods that de-mystify the challenges of perfecting different types of baked goods.  For this camp week we will be making Strawberry Tart, Cheesecake, Cupcakes, Choose Your Own Adventure Cookies, Soft Pretzels and PB&J “Sushi,” and more!  Students will gain an understanding of kitchen and baking fundamentals and essentials. And, the intensive will span many different learning points from history, to math, chemistry, motor skills, etc, and will, of course, include the joy of having fun while making incredible things to eat.
Ingredients You Will Need:
Sugar
Flour
Butter
Salt
Baking Powder
Baking Soda
Brown Sugar
Powdered Sugar
vanilla extract
package cream cheese
Container of Cool Whip
graham crackers
english muffins
tomato sauce
mozzarella cheese
Celery sticks
nut butter
raisins
sprinkles, candy and cookies for decoration (optional)
almond flour
Cornstarch
Tortilla chips
shredded cheddar cheese
Mix ins for cookie dough such as your child’s favorite type of chip, pretzels, marshmallows, candy, etc.
fruit such as grapes, berries or cut up melon
active dry yeast
Coarse, kosher or pretzel salt
Soft wheat or white bread
jelly, jam or honey
Kitchen Supplies You Will Need:
Sheetpan or cookie sheet
Cupcake tin
cupcake liners
large mixing bowl
mixing spoon
spatula
zip loc baggies
butter knife
cutting board
dry measuring cups
liquid measuring cup
measuring spoons
Rolling pin
toothpicks or skewers
Day 1: No Bake Cheesecakes and English Muffin Pizzas
1/2 package cream cheese
1/2 container of Cool Whip
8 graham crackers
Berries (optional)
english muffins
tomato sauce
mozzarella cheese
Cups (for cheesecakes)
Day 2: Cupcakes and Ants on a log
Celery sticks
nut butter or cream cheese
raisins
sprinkles, candy and cookies for decoration (optional)

Day 3: Strawberry Tart and Microwave nachos
1 cup almond flour
1 pound of fresh strawberries
2 tablespoons of cornstarch
Tortilla chips
shredded cheddar cheese

Day 4: Choose your own adventure cookies and fruit kabobs **
Mix ins for cookie dough such as your child’s favorite type of chip, pretzels, marshmallows, candy, etc.

toothpicks or skewers

Day 5: Soft Pretzels and PB&J “Sushi”
2 1/4 teaspoons or one paper packet of active dry yeast
Coarse, kosher or pretzel salt
Soft wheat or white bread
Nut butter or cream cheese
jelly, jam or honey
rolling pin or a water bottle for rolling
