READING & WRITING for COLLEGE: College Prep Writing for TEENS

The goal of this class is to unlock the mysteries of scholarly writing in preparation for college and the college application process. College students are asked to read and write about many kinds of texts: from the classics to contemporary short stories, from psychology to physics, from art to advertisements, and much more. Scholarly writing can be about the Simpsons just as easily as it can be about Hamlet. So, from television to Tolstoy, in this class – we’ve got you covered. Students will learn the differences between a close reading, a reader response, an annotation, counterclaim, essay, and various other types of college level assignments while also learning methods for reading text that demystify assignments across disciplines. This class will provide students with a writer’s toolkit that will overflow with strategies and tips equipping them with the know-how to read any kind of text to write any kind of paper.
