Team ROC: Lego Robotics Club & First Lego League for Ages 10+

Team ROC! is for experienced and committed Lego enthusiasts who like to work collaboratively within teams, and/or also enjoy creating individual robotics projects in the company of other advanced builders with whom they can share ideas and discoveries, and also have their creations interact with the creations of others.

FIRST (For Inspiration and  Recognition of Science and Technology) LEGO provides annual missions that invite students to investigate real-world engineering challenges by building LEGO-based robots to complete a variety tasks that simulate real-life technological challenges inspiring and motivating kids to think like scientists and engineers.

The goal of each year’s FIRST LEGO League Challenge theme is to help kids see themselves as capable of improving the lives of others through addressing real-world problems.  In 2013, teams explored ways to use robotics to help humans master natural disasters with FIRST’s NATURE’S FURY℠ Challenge, in 2014 teams invstigated the vast multitude of ways learning happens in the 21st Century with FIRST’s WORLD CLASS Challenge, in 2015 the TRASH TREK Challege explored problems and solutions involving the world’s waste issues, 2016’s theme revolved around human / animal interactions, and 2017 explores challenges involving Water.  Students design, develop, build, test, and program autonomous robots using LEGO MINDSTORMS® to solve a set of missions in the Robot Game, conceive, develop and present an original project based on the year’s theme, all while working as a higly cooperative team.
The ROC’s team, The ROCbotics have won awards every year, including the first place Champion’s Award at Dalton High School.
