This course focuses on literature from the Middle Ages through the Victorian era.
Course readings have included works such as Robin hood, Time Traveler, and Around the World in 80 days.

Exploring Medieval Europe through literature, lecture and discussion – including the role in medieval society, the fall of the Roman Empire, the rise of Christianity in Europe, and feudalism with a particular focus on England, Scotland, and France.
Fall 2020
Jules Verne and Victorian Society – Jules Verne is best known today for his science fiction adventure novels, many of which reveal a lot about late 19th century culture. In this class, we will be reading, critically analyzing and discussing Around the World in 80 Days and Journey to the Centre of the Earth to learn more about Victorian society. We will also read excerpts from Verne’s other novels, which will aid our understanding. Although we will be reading fictional novels, we will be using them to get a sense of European cultural history and also about Verne himself.
