Economics and the American Revolution

The American Revolution – The era of the American Revolution was a complex time where enlightenment ideologies were influencing politics and daily life. In this class, we will discuss how the enlightenment influenced the American Revolution, how the war broke out, what role slavery played in the founding of the country, and how the underdog managed to win the day. We will also discuss the founding of the American political state and the origins of how we got to where we are today. The class will end with a discussion of the American constitution, the dispute between Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson, and the beginning of George Washington’s presidency. We will do this through a combination of class discussions, reading primary sources, and some historical analysis.
